PAINTING JOBS
One of the most important jobs we do is paint [or stain] homes and other buildings that help protect the wood from the weather and thus prevent the breakdown of the wood to the point of needing expensive repairs.  At such work sites, the following items are important:

·        You are here to paint the building – not each other – and not the grass, shrubs, etc.  Doing the job with extra care makes a big difference to our clients.  So where possible, use drop clothes or plastic to protect the client’s property.

·        At the end of each day, all brushes and rollers need to be properly cleaned or wrapped and refrigerated overnight in sealed plastic bags for re-use the next day.

·        At the end of each day, paint cans need to be properly closed.  Any empty cans should be left opened so they can dry to allow NPHM to dispose of them at the Transfer Station.

·        Ladder and scaffolding safety must be reviewed each day – particularly if new people rotate onto the site.

·        Site leaders should review the inventory at the end of each day to assess if more paint will be required – it is better for us to know this before you run out of paint.

·        At the end of the week, it REALLY helps MHM if all brushes and rollers and equipment are thoroughly cleaned and allowed to dry overnight.  Cleaning up on Saturdays and encountering wet paint is not fun.

·        When moving ladders, take care to not come in contact with power lines.  Also, leaning a ladder into a window is not recommended.

·        Electrical connections to homes are ‘supposedly’ safe – it is still recommended that you avoid contact of any kind with the electrical lines.
